Design Module

General

Added: "Default Area Unit" to Setup Form to allow selection of metric or other units of measure for room area (size) values (for example, "sq ft" or "m².")

Enhanced: Previously, double-clicking a main editing form (Project form, Spec form, etc.) would invoke "editing" mode in the same way that double-clicking a row in the grid list does.  In this version, double-clicking an editable field will also start editing mode, but leave the cursor positioned on that field instead of the first field on the form (which was usually the ID field).

Projects

Added: A project "Area Unit of Measure" to allow overriding the default unit of measure (e.g., "sq ft") on a specific project.

Rooms

You can now sort the list by "Phase" and by "Code."

Added: A new "budget per unit area" calculator is available (it appears as a [=] button next to the existing room "Budget" field).  Using this requires that you have a room area (size) either entered already or that you enter it on the calculator:

The "indicated unit of measure" will be the unit defined on either the main Setup Form or on the Project List screen (default: "Sq Ft"). In addition to the calculator, any room that has both a budget amount and a unit area amount entered will display the equivalent budget per unit area next to the budget field.

FF&E Worksheet

Enhanced, editing commands (Add, Edit Clone): The "Current Contents" display now includes a total for the items in the room and an extended total based on the room count.  If a budget has been entered on the Room List screen, it will be displayed also, and if a room size has been entered, so will a budget or price per unit area.  A new control allows you to display either the objects' budget amounts and total or the price amounts and total, depending  upon how you are analyzing budgets.

Enhanced reports: Room quantity (count) now appears for quantities of one on reports where that quantity was previously assumed but not printed.

FF&E and Finish Schedules: Both of these report types were revised for better readability and their default content options produce simpler schedules based on the object, with more logical options to add the vendor information, spec components and full specifications.

Price / Budget Comparison by Area/Room: Added option to control whether an object's budget is substituted for the price when a component specification has no cost yet.  This allows the reporting of more meaningful results when pricing is not complete.

Pricing Summary by Area/Room: Added price per unit area calculation for each room.

Objects

Fixed: If the user confirmed that a change to the Tag should be copied to the associated Spec ID and then a validity check aborted the usual "Save" sequence, the change request to the Spec ID was reset and was not done when a successful save occurred.   Fixed  Confirming that you wanted to change the Spec ID to match a changed object Tag could produce an error after saving if you immediately repeated that kind of edit on another object.

Specifications

Enhanced Reports: Some of the "internal" specification reports now include the image thumbnail for reference.  This has been kept to a small size to make these review reports efficient to use and to help prevent new users from mistaking them for the presentation reports located on the FF&E Worksheet.

Added, vendor quote management: Added "Vendor Quote ID," date and "days until expiration" fields to the "Spec Status" area to make it easier to document price quotes.  The expiration field is used to display an expiration date (next to the "Total Price) for quotes that may be expiring soon or already expired.  The date will be in red for expired quotes and orange for those expiring within a week.  The "Vendor quote expires" field is available for use in queries.

Enhanced: Lead time management: Added a calculated "Order by" note that appears next to the "Lead time" field if you enter both a project "Install" date (on the project form) and a non-zero lead time (in weeks) on a spec. The note turns orange one week before the order date and red afterwards.

Added three status columns to the Specification List grid to summarize information from the "Spec Status" section of the screen:

  • The "DA" column shows a check mark if the "Design Approved" field has a date in it.
  • Likewise, the "CA" column displays a check mark if a date has been entered in the "Client Approved" field.
  • The "Quote" column displays a blank if no vendor quote information has been entered, a check mark if it has.  However, it shows a clock face if the expiration date is within one week and an "X" if the quote has expired.

Note: these symbols require that the standard Wingdings font be present on your PC.

Added: Attaching multiple images: A new "Image only" option on the Specification Screen allows you to use a special type of specification as an additional, non-ordering component on any object.  Since an image can be attached to each component, this gives you the ability to add as many images as you need to the "multi-image" Illustration Sheet format.  Image-only specs only allow basic description entries and no price information, since they are primarily meant for situations where a single specification is being written for an object that needs multiple images.  For more information, see "Attaching Multiple Images for a Single Product Specification."

Fixed: Under some circumstances, manually specified image file names were allowed to be entered that exceeded the size of the field.  Although the image was copied to the library with the full file name, the truncated file name that was stored in the field caused it to appear to be missing.  In the new version, manually entered file names are properly checked for length.  (Existing image files will "appear" if you change their file name in FF&EZ's "Images" folder to remove characters that exceed a total of 45, not including the file extension.)
